Relief Prints
30 Days - Banjo
It takes 30 days of repeating a task to create a habit. In an attempt to teach myself the banjo I practiced every day, for 30 days. Although this routine did not result in a strong ability to play the instrument, it did produce a to-scale, 6 layer reductive wood cut. The edition of 5 prints was carved and printed entirely by hand.

Print as Performance

Every cut and every mark made on a piece of wood to create a relief print is one made with intention and purpose. It is here that I aim to emphasize the true amount of work that goes into a print like this one. Often when carving I find myself getting lost in the process and in some ways speeding through the process, finding peace in the repetitive motion. During this documentation practice, I was forced to slow down and make even more conscious of the cuts I was making to the matrix.

Along with the importance of the process, I also took into consideration situations in which we find ourselves unintentionally on display. The beach is a place of rest and relaxation, but also somewhere you are extremely vulnerable within your body, often times finding yourself in a state of performance.
